Why here — the dossier
Every highlight comes from the Yard roster — nothing invented.
Band spotlight
Band founded 2019
Xavier went nearly a century without a marching band — football died in the late 1950s — until the athletics department founded a small pep band club in 2019. In January 2023 Athletics and the Music Division formally christened it the Golden Sound Marching Band with a mission to rival HBCU bands, growing it to 65 members with partial band scholarships. It plays home games, marches Mardi Gras parades, and served as an Olay brand ambassador at Essence Fest 2024. The deeper music tradition lives in the Concert Choir, Gospel Choir, Symphonic Band, and the Opera Workshop led by Dr. Sakinah Davis.
