Why here — the dossier
Every highlight comes from the Yard roster — nothing invented.
Band spotlight
Dillard has never fielded a football team, so there is no marching band — and that is the honest shape of it. The university's signature ensemble is instead the Dillard University Concert Choir, founded in 1935 under Frederick Hall and directed since 1975 by S. Carver Davenport, the longest-serving choral director at any HBCU. The choir has sung for Presidents Gerald Ford and Barack Obama, and Davenport was music director of the 1990 Super Bowl halftime show. Dillard's music royalty also runs through its alumni: Harold Battiste, Alvin Batiste, and Ellis Marsalis Jr. all came up through the university.
