Why here — the dossier
Every highlight comes from the Yard roster — nothing invented.
Band spotlight
Band founded 1906
The Marching Crimson Pipers — MCP to everyone — date to 1906 and carry one of the proudest band traditions in the SIAC: the pregame 'Ball N-Parlay' ritual under 'The Shed' with the student section is, per HBCU Gameday, one of the hypest pregame rituals in college football. Auxiliaries include the Crimson Piperettes dancers and the Twirling Divas. Alumni of the program include Lionel Richie, Ralph Ellison, and Dr. Conrad 'Prof' Hutchinson Jr., who took what he learned at Tuskegee and built Grambling's band into a legend. The band's 2021 protest — a month of refusing to play, straight through homecoming — is one of the boldest stands any HBCU band has ever taken, and it worked: new uniforms, new staff, new era.
